The University of Darmstadt has issued general regulations for examinations which define the legal basis for granting academic diplomas and are valid for all courses and in all faculties:

Accreditation will be awarded by the ministry of culture and education of the German state Hessen (to which Darmstadt belongs). Quality examination has been successfully passed by  the accreditation agency ACQUIN.

course fees

The current course fee for the first year is € 5000,- excluding any cost for visits, study tours, books etc... In addition, a compulsory contribution to the student union adds another 220 € per semester, but includes free public transport in Darmstadt and the surrounding region.  The requested fee for the overseas / international term in the second year depends on the fee scale of the guest university and varies between no cost (many state universities) and US$ 2000,- according to the students chosen place. The supervision and examination fee for the mater thesis is currently set at € 900,-.

living costs

Living costs depend on the student’s personal standard and may average around €  800,-- per month.  University student apartments are available at about €250 per month. Any travel cost and overseas expenses are not included. The master’s course requires a minimum of 8 months presence in Germany. Foreign students are usually allowed to work in Germany during the term holidays only.

grants

Unfortunately Darmstadt University does not offer bursaries for this course.  But for the MUNDUS URBANO double degree option, a limited number of scholarships are offered on behalf of the European Commission. Other German, foreign and international grants may apply for this course but must applied for by the individual student if required.
